Dr. Reese’s Bits and Pieces
December 2015 Newsletter

The holidays are upon us and the New Year will be here in a flash.  I call this the “Season of Eating” from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day.  We eat out more, attend holiday parties and potlucks which expose us to many opportunities to ingest parasites.  My current recommendation is to take one GI Synergy pack each day you eat food that was prepared outside of your home.  If you eat Sushi or travel out of the country, take two GI Synergy packs that day.

I won’t get into the gross dynamics of how you can pick up parasites from this food but use the GI Synergy as your protection from food-borne parasites, bacteria, etc.  Having personally experienced food poisoning and severe parasitic infections in the past, I do whatever I can to prevent that from happening again.

Pet Flu Shots
In a recent newsletter, I addressed flu shots and how I would not shoot that concoction into my body.  I recently found out that there is a big push to do the same thing to your dogs.  I did some research and found the vaccine is only needed in dogs that are housed with a lot of other dogs and not really needed for your house dog.  Dr. Becker, DVM wrote an article entitled “Your Dog Can- and Should-Do Without a Flu Vaccine”, that outlines why.  You can read the article at: http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2013/02/20/dog-flu-vaccine.aspx

Statin Nation II
I recently reviewed Dr. Malcolm Kendrick’s book, The Great Cholesterol Con in a newsletter.  It exposed the fallacy that cholesterol causes heart disease and that statins are only helpful to about 1% of the people taking them plus they create other health problems.  There is a free movie for the next few days on Mercola.com that will give you more info on this subject.

According to Dr. Mercola:
"Statin Nation II: What Really Causes Heart Disease?" is the sequel to the documentary "Statin Nation: The Great Cholesterol Cover-up." However, it stands well on its own, even if you didn't see the original film.

High cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, etc. usually relate to a weak thyroid, insulin resistance/diabetes and liver problems.  These can usually be addressed using nutrition.  For the people who need a nutritional alternative to a statin drug, Red Yeast Rice works well.  Be sure to take it with CO Q 10 since it is a natural statin and it blocks production of CoQ10 just like the medications.

COKE'S NEW ADS CLAIM IT'S PART OF A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
When it comes to food, if you eat healthy 80-90% of the time, usually you’ll will be fine.  The occasional junk food won’t kill you.  But to suggest it’s part of a healthy lifestyle is some pretty clever marketing!  How much good food to you have to eat to balance poisoning your body?  A lot!  Having 1-2 a month is not as good as none but much better than 1-2 a day or 1-2 a week.  Coke is purely about taste and has nothing to do with having any nutritional value.  It’s the same with all sugar or chemically laced food.  The one good thing about drinking Coke is that it will take all the rust off your bolts!

Cancerous Bacon and Beef
Recent news stories declared processed meats to be as dangerous as cigarettes in causing cancer.  It was certainly attention grabbing but not quite accurate:

  • The International Agency for Research on Cancer, a part of the World Health Organization, has classified processed meats as a Group 1 carcinogen, as the evidence strongly shows it can cause colorectal cancer in humans
  • Cooked red meat was classified as a 2A “probable human carcinogen,” with limited evidence suggesting it may raise your risk of colorectal, pancreatic, and prostate cancer.

(http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2015/11/11/processed-meats-declared-carcinogenic.aspx?e_cid=20151111Z1_DNL_art_1&utm_source=dnl&utm_medium=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20151111Z1&et_cid=DM90077&et_rid=1210615892)

Yes, cigarettes are also a Group 1 carcinogen which is how they made the connection between processed foods and smoking.

“Processed” is the key word here and not meat.  When we eat meats that were humanely raised, like they were on your great grandmother’s farm, you are eating food that has been in our diet for thousands of years.

Commercial farm raised meats have been shot full of antibiotics and steroids to keep the animals from getting sick and to fatten them up.  Cow feed that contains more antibiotics, corn and cow parts are not part of that animal’s natural diet.  The meat from these animals is already changed from what we’ve always eaten.  Then we send it to the food processors to add chemicals as flavor enhancers, preservatives, etc.  Cook this whole chemical soup on a fire and it’s not surprising the results will be cancerous over time.

The key is eating food as close to its natural form as possible.  That eliminates most foods that come in a package, box, can or container.  Add to that organic or free range meats and you don’t have to worry about the report above.

Office News
I will be out of the office from Wednesday December 2 through Tuesday December 8th for some beach time in Playa del Carmen before the holidays hit.  Sarah will still be here to help you.

The office will be closed Dec 24, 25, Jan 1 for Christmas and New Year’s.  We’ll close at noon on 12/31.

You may have noticed a different look to the newsletter this month.  We had to change the format due to post office regulations.  I personally don’t like the look so it may change again in the near future.
