Yeast, molds and fungus are collectively called Mycological Syndrome. It can affect any system in the body and is much more than just vaginal yeast infections. In the office, we usually refer to it as yeast regardless of which type of infection you have. The Mycological Syndrome can produce:
Symptoms
Acne, allergies, anxiety, athletes foot, backaches, bloating, boils, brain fog, breast cysts, chronic fatigue, constipation, depression, diarrhea, digestive problems, food allergies, gum disease, hair loss, hay fever, headaches, Joint pain, recurrent colds & flu, sinusitis, skin rashes, sleep disturbances, vaginal discharge, etc.
THE “MONOSTAT” MYTH
Many women believe that unless they have a vaginal yeast infection they are yeast-free. In reality, vaginal discharge only shows up in 20-30% of the women with yeast infections. But whenever you have a vaginal yeast infection, you always have a systemic (throughout the whole body) infection. The T.V. ads that proclaim a “cure” by using a localized cream are deceptive because they don’t really get rid of the systemic infection. That is why they become recurrent. You could also have never had a vaginal infection but still suffer from a systemic infection. Many men falsely believe that yeast is only a woman’s disease. They may have many of the symptoms listed above but blame the cause on “stress”. Unfortunately, they unknowingly pass the infection on to their partners.
HOW DO YOU GET IT?
Antibiotics, steroids (like Prednisone), synthetic hormones, birth control pills and parasitic infections cause systemic mold and yeast infections. Another cause, as we stated earlier, is sexual contact. It’s a pretty good bet that if you have a yeast infection, so does your sexual partner. They should get checked, too. Many times we have cleared up someone’s yeast only to have it return a few months later because his or her partner was not treated. We will check your partner, just for yeast, at no charge. We do this as a service for our patients so they can get well faster. If they have any other health problems they want treated, they must come in as a regular new patient.
Finally, yeast and mold infections can be caused by molds growing in your home or work environment. The easiest way to test this is by bringing in a sample of air from both home and work. This is done by leaving open a clean glass jar in the area you want to test. After an hour or more, put the lid on tight and bring it in for me to test it with you. If your air is a problem, we will give you information about how to ozonate that area to clean up the air.
TREATMENT
Through our nutrition testing we can determine if you have Mycological Syndrome and what you need to do to treat it. It used to take a year or more to successfully treat this problem. Now, thanks to better supplements, we can handle this problem in 3-12 weeks. During the first week or two you might experience an increase in the symptoms you have or any of the symptoms listed above. This is due to the yeast dying off and is actually a good sign. If you become too uncomfortable, please call us and we will adjust your dosage. Please call us before you stop taking any of your supplements! The good news is that this uncomfortable die off only occurs in about 10-20% of the people we treat for yeast.
