Welcome to Spring Break month! These past few weeks of 60-70 degree weather has started an epidemic of Spring Fever. The best cure is a liberal dose of salt water, sunshine and a sandy beach with adequate doses of tequila and rum to kill off any bugs. Purely medicinal of course!
The Measles are Coming!
Speaking of epidemics…it seems the world is under attack by the deadly measles virus. Except that it’s not deadly and it’s always been around. Oh and many of the people getting infected have already been vaccinated. Now there’s an inconvenient truth!
My stance on vaccines is that every person has to educate themselves on the downside of not getting vaccinated and getting vaccinated. You have to be clear of what risks you are willing to take regardless of your choice.
The vast media machine fueled by government pressure and drug company money can spin any story they want. If the science was really “set” on this topic, why do they have to resort to name calling? Usually that is the tactic of someone who is losing the argument:
Dr. James Cherry,8 a prominent UCLA pediatrician and infectious disease expert, publicly joined in the blame and shame game, hurling insults at parents declining to give children every one of the government recommended 69 doses of 16 vaccines, including two MMR shots. Dr. Cherry said, "There are some pretty dumb people out there,"9 and "Some people are just terribly selfish."10
That is also what they tell us about all the stupid people not getting the flu shot. The same flu shot that, once again, proved to be ineffective for the viral strain that is infecting people this winter. The same shot that health care workers could lose their job over if they didn’t get one.
There has been a bit of mass hysteria over this latest outbreak of measles which is odd because this happens every year. 51 people infected at Disney is small compared to most of the outbreaks. Again, many of those infected already were vaccinated but that comes as no surprise. In a June 17, 2014 article, a strong proponent of all vaccines said:
In the medical journal Vaccine,2 Dr. Gregory Poland, the journal's editor-in-chief, professor of medicine and founder and leader of Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group, recently made surprising public statements about the poor effectiveness of measles vaccine in the MMR shot.
For many years, Dr. Poland has been a strong mandatory vaccination proponent and has criticized MMR vaccine safety critics but now he is taking the lead in publicly criticizing the vaccine's failure to prevent measles.
Public health agencies have been reporting measles outbreaks in the US for the past few years, which they often blame on unvaccinated individuals, despite the fact that in 2012, 95 percent of children entering kindergarten had gotten two MMR shots and so had more than 90 percent of high school students.
With this high degree of compliance with a supposedly effective measles vaccine, many people have been wondering why the U.S. is seeing a resurgence of measles cases (from January 1 to June 6, 2014, the CDC reported 397 cases of measles and 16 outbreaks in the US).3
For starters, it's important to remember that, like B. pertussis whooping cough and other infectious diseases, measles has natural cyclical increases and decreases every few years in populations.
These may occur even in highly vaccinated populations because the vaccine itself is not a guarantee of long lasting immunity and even two doses of MMR vaccine can fail to protect. According to Dr. Poland, who is conducting research at Mayo Clinic to develop new measles, mumps and rubella vaccines:4
"…the immune response to measles vaccine varies substantially in actual field use. Multiple studies demonstrate that 2–10% of those immunized with two doses of measles vaccine fail to develop protective antibody levels, and that immunity can wane over time and result in infection (so-called secondary vaccine failure) when the individual is exposed to measles.
For example, during the 1989–1991 U.S. measles outbreaks 20–40% of the individuals affected had been previously immunized with one to two doses of vaccine. In an October 2011 outbreak in Canada, over 50% of the 98 individuals had received two doses of measles vaccine… this phenomenon continues to play a role in measles outbreaks.
Thus, measles outbreaks also occur even among highly vaccinated populations because of primary and secondary vaccine failure, which results in gradually larger pools of susceptible persons and outbreaks once measles is introduced.

The current solution being proposed is for a third shot to be administered to older children and adults. I’m sure Merck would love every adult on the planet be mandated to receive an MMR shot. No financial incentive there to scream and yell about the ignorant unvaccinated mini-minority of people in the country.
I saw a headline for an article on the web asking if parents whose kids get sick have the right to sue parents of unvaccinated kids. That sure presupposes a lot of cause and effect but if your vaccinated kid gets sick, wouldn’t it be the drug company’s fault? And if your kid gets permanently damaged by the MMR shot, can you sue the vaccinated children’s parents? You sure can’t sue the drug company since they have immunity:
On February 22, 2011 the U.S. Supreme Court shielded drug companies from all liability for harm caused by vaccines mandated by government when companies could have made a safer vaccine. 1
From now on, drug companies selling vaccines in America will not be held accountable by a jury of our peers in a court of law if those vaccines brain damage us but could have been made less toxic. 2

If they are so safe, why do they need these protections? The point is that the “science” is not clear because of the fog of politics and money clouding the issue. With the ever-expanding role of government intervention into our healthcare choices, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what they will soon mandate.
What we are really losing is our right to choice what, when and why we do something with our health. State governments have already shown us that if your child gets cancer, they will force you to get the “proper” treatment even if it kills them and they send you off to prison if you fail to comply. Thank goodness that never happened to my kids and I hope the same for your family!
To get the other side of the vaccine story you can research sites like www.NVIC.org, Mercola.com and drtenpenny.com. These people and any anyone who disagrees with the blanket mandates of enforced medical procedures are being labeled vaccine deniers. In reality, it’s the media and the government that are denying your right to choice and the availability of the unvarnished whole truth so that you can make an informed choice.

I have decided to write myself a doctor’s note prescribing sun, sand and sea to give to my employer. One of the problems with owning your own business is that you have a slave driver for a boss and a worthless employee you can’t fire! I gave my boss notice that I’m gone to the beach in Roatan during Boulder Valley School’s Spring Break the week of 3/23-27. Hopefully you will take a break too!
